The Colony Cocktail is a prohibition era cocktail, considered one of the classics. It was first created at famous Colony speakeasy in New York which was frequented by notables of the time like the Vanderbilts and the Windors.
2 parts gin
1 part fresh squeezed pink grapefruit juice
a touch of Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice, shake vigorously for 10 seconds, strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.
Luxardo can sometimes be difficult to find. If you must, substitute with the liquid from a jar of maraschino cherries (shudder). For an extra treat, try making your own maraschino cherries at home using this recipe – easy and delicious.
